Bleckley County Elementary School Named as a 2014 Georgia Reward School (Highest-Performing School)

On September 16, 2014, Bleckley County Elementary School received word that the school was named as a 2014 Highest-Performing Georgia Reward School by State School Superintendent, Dr. John Barge.  A Highest-Performing School is among the five percent of the state’s Title I schools with the highest absolute performance, over three years, for the “all students” group on the statewide assessments. A school may not be classified as a Highest-Performing School if it has been identified as a Priority, Focus, or Alert School. BCES was the only school in the Heart of Georgia RESA area to earn the highest performing distinction, and this is the third year in a row that BCES has received with this special reward.

FCCLA Chef Classes

Chef Lee Polk of Middle Georgia State College is working with FCCLA members at Bleckley County High.  Chef Lee is teaching an afterschool program on culinary skills twice a month.  Students have the opportunity to learn and practice knife skills, fruit and vegetable carving, presentation trays and even work the “front of the house”.   There is no cost for the program and students enjoy the hands on learning experience and eating what they made, too.

FBLA Advisors attend training

FALCON is the FBLA Advisor Leadership CONference. BCHS FBLA advisors Cathie Arnold and Julie Hutto along with  BCMS FBLA advisors Emily Raley and Mandy Rogers attended the annual FBLA advisor leadership conference at the Goodwill Anderson Center in Macon, Georgia.

This conference is designed for FBLA advisors from all over GA to come together to share and learn from each other.  They covered topics about curriculum alignment, community service, achievement awards, student competitions and membership recruitment. Advisors came home with many leadership ideas and lesson integration information to help make 2014-2015 a successful and productive year for their FBLA members.
