Third Grade Garden Is Ready at BCES

Third grade students spent the past weeks preparing the school garden and planting collards.  With the help of the two science teachers, Christy Jones and Deb Collins, and the community garden volunteer, Deputy Andrew Lemmon, the garden is now in full bloom with beautiful collards and turnip greens.  The students picked the greens last week and the lunchroom ladies cooked the greens for the students.  During lunch, the students were able to try and even enjoy this southern specialty.

Shoot Hoops, Not Drugs!

In collaboration with Middle Georgia State College Basketball Teams, students at Bleckley County Elementary School had the privilege of shooting hoops with the basketball players on Friday, October 31, 2014.  BCES students enjoyed getting autographs, meeting each player, and playing some basketball with the team.  The special event was one of the ways that BCES celebrated Red Ribbon Week which reinforces ways to “say no to drugs”.  Red Ribbon Week is a national initiative, and BCES was proud to end the week of activities with Middle Georgia State College Basketball Teams.  Check in the Photo Gallery below for more pictures.

Bleckley Police Department Visits Pre-K

Halloween is an exciting time for young children, but can also be dangerous if safety precautions aren’t taken.  Officers from Cochran Police Department visited Bleckley County Pre-K on Thursday, Oct. 30 to talk to students about Halloween safety.  Each class was visited by the officers and students had an opportunity to ask questions.  Every student received a bag to use for trick-or-treating.  Pre-K teachers followed-up with additional activities to reinforce what the officers taught.   We appreciate the Cochran Police Department’s support and efforts in helping our students learn the importance of Halloween safety.
