Saturday, November 7, was a day of "firsts" for the BCHS Cross Country Team as they made history at State Competition. Those "firsts" include: 1st time BCHS has won state as a team in cross country; 1st boys' team to become State


On Thursday, November 5th, the Bleckley County Middle School Cheerleaders were named Region Champions for the first time since 2007!   They earned this honor by performing an incredibly complex, and almost flawless, routine that had everyone on their feet and cheering!  





On Friday night, members and coaches of Bleckley County's only undefeated football team were recognized.  The 1978 Royals, coached by Jimmy Kilpatrick, Larry Barlow, and Gary Morris, were 10 - 0 in the regular season. They were defeated in the first round of play-offs by Robert E. Lee. 


The Royals Boys' Basketball team is putting on a fundraiser and would love to have everyone's support. Check out the cool spirit items in the catalog which can be used as great Christmas gifts for friends and family or for you to wear to upcoming Royals games! ... 


On Thursday, October 29, the BCHS One Act Play finished second in Region. Ashley Strickland was named Best Actress in the Region; Sydney Hagler was named Best Supporting Actress; ...

Bleckley County Board of Education recognized the TOTY for each school in the district at the last board meeting.  Mr. Jackie Bowen from State Bank presented each of them with a check and  Mrs. Kim Wright, Chairman of the Board presented them with a plaque.

The Georgia Milestones tests measure what students in grades 3 through high school have learned. Many students will take the new tests online.

BCHS Relay Team Donates Money

The BCHS Relay for Life team collected $3400 last October by selling t-shirts for the Pink Out football game. The money was donated last week to Bleckley County Relay for Life.
The Bleckley County Relay for Life event will be held Friday April 24 at the old high school track. Activities start at 6:00 pm. Everyone is invited.

Results from Superintendent Search Surveys

FCCLA members Dashia Beal, Shakira Hughes and Nakira Farrow placed 2nd in Focus on Children competition at Region 8 meeting on Saturday.  They will advance to state competition and present their Top Secret ...Wash your Hands presentation to judges at the Sate FCCLA Conference in March.  The project included a presentation about the 5 important steps of washing your hand.  It was presented to 3rd grade students in Mrs. Kim Fernandez's class at BCES. 

FCCLA members Ebonni Stubbs, Tyche Veal and Cherith Sain placed 1st in Food Innovations competition at Region 8 meeting on Saturday.  They will advance to state competition and present their etc...granola bites to judges at the Sate FCCLA Conference in March.

Spring Holidays

Spring Royal Singers and Literary Concert, Thursday, April 2 at 7:30. 

Cost is $5 Adults and $3 Students.  All Proceeds help to pay for a Show Choir Competition.

K.I.S.S. Event

Communities In Schools/Family Connection and OFTC Adult Education partnered together to present information at the BCMS “K.I.S.S.” (Kids Inviting Someone Special) event held in February.

BCES Principal of the Day

Miss Darci Dillard was named BCES Principal of the day on February 23, 2015. She had the opportunity to bid on the chance to take over Ms. DeLoach’s job, and Darci received the highest bid at the Winterfest. She enjoyed spending the day with Ms. DeLoach and experienced the “life of a school principal.” This was Darci’s second time having this special opportunity.

Darci is a fifth grade student at Bleckley County Elementary School and the daughter of Mike and Amanda Dillard.

BCMS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to 7th grade teacher Mrs. Teresa Maddox being named Teacher of the Year for the Middle School.

Earning their Microsoft Certification

Two BCHS freshmen earn their Microsoft Office Certification in WORD 2013. 

 Ethan Norfleet and Sam Boston passed their certification test and are continuing to work for their WORD 2013 Expert certification in the near future.

STAR Student and Teacher Recognized at Chamber Banquet

The Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet on February 19th.  They recognized and presented the BCHS STAR student, Drew Belflower and STAR teacher, Mr. Bryan Wynne, with plaques.

Drew will be attending Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall. Congratulations to these two very deserving individuals.


Glowing Germs???

Mrs. Jones’s biology classes are experimenting.  Here are some pictures of day one of their Transformation of E. Coli with Green Fluorescent Protein gene lab.  They are forcing E.Coli bacteria to take on the pGFP gene (naturally found in jellyfish) so that they will then glow fluorescent green much like some jellyfish do.  After the bacteria incubate overnight, hopefully we will have glowing green E.Coli bacteria!

The CNA students began their clinical hours this week at Bryant Nursing a Home. They spent a day observing and learning the skills they will need to earn their certification.

Congratulations to the following students for being chosen for student of the month for January.

Technical School Visit

Teachers Julie Hutto, Kelli Green, and William Basby traveled with a group of Bleckley County High School students to the Dubose Porter Center in Dublin, Ga. to participate in the Oconee Fall Line Technical College's Program Fair. The college fair is designed with hands-on, interactive displays of individual programs offered at Oconee Fall Line. At each interactive display, a program instructor was available to answer questions about the program and financial aid.

FBLA & FCCLA week Celebrated

Dr. Charlotte Pipkin met with officers of BCHS FBLA and FCCLA to sign proclamations making the week of February 8-14th National FBLA-PBL Week and National FCCLA Week here at Bleckley County High School.

BCES Spelling Bees

Congratulations to the 4th and 5th graders who participated in the grade-level spelling bees on January 14. The winners for 4th grade were: 1st – Lily Brooks, 2nd – Emily Arnold. Winners for 5th grade were: 1st – Arealius English, 2nd – Evan Powell. These students will compete with students at the middle school in the system spelling bee on February 5th.
