BCHS FBLA Awarded 2016 March for Babies Award

Bleckley County High School’s Future Business Leaders of America was awarded the 2016 Bibb/Macon March for Babies Top FBLA Team Award. Bleckley FBLA members and advisers are elated about the donation of $900.00 they were able to make to this worthy cause this past school year.

BCHS FBLA President, Lacey White and March of Dimes Chair, Tyler Sapp are shown below with the award and a handwritten note from Glenda Davis, Senior Development Manager of Central/Southern Georgia March of Dimes. Ms. Davis expressed her appreciation for our organization’s hard work and continued support and dedication to the cause. Ms. Davis commented that Bleckley High’s FBLA is truly making a difference in the lives of babies in Middle Georgia and beyond.

March of Dimes’ March for Babies is an FBLA State Project that BCHS FBLA takes to heart. Each year we participate in a variety of activities to earn money for this cause. We appreciate the willingness of Superintendent Steve Smith to allow us to hold a system wide dress down week each year as well as a Hats On For Babies hat day at BCHS each year. We hope to expand opportunities to raise money for this cause in the future.

kBCHS Student Selected for 2017 Washington Youth Tour

Once a year, Ocmulgee EMC sends high school students from their service region to represent the co-op on the prestigious Washington Youth Tour.
The trip brings together 1,500 ambitious high school students from across our nation for an incredible week in the nation's capital to develop their leadership and team building skills further.
The Washington Youth Tour (WYT) is sponsored nationally by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and statewide by the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (GEMC).
As Georgia’s oldest leadership program for teens, the Washington Youth Tour teaches high school students about U.S. history, government and the importance of public service. The tour was inspired by former president Lyndon B. Johnson who, in 1957, encouraged electric cooperatives to send young people to the nation’s capital where they could actually see what the flag represents.
Bleckley County High School is proud to announce that OEMC has selected JoAnna Winborn as the Bleckley representative for the 2017 Washington Youth Tour! JoAnna is a senior at BCHS and is the daughter of Lorane Coffman and Frank Winborn of Cochran. She will attend the WYT June 8-15th. She will be furthering her education at The Citadel in Charleston, SC in August. Congratulations JoAnna!
