School Visitation Set for August 5

The Bleckley County Schools will hold Parent/Student Visitation for the 2014-2015 school year on Tuesday, August 5th.  For students at Bleckley County Primary, Elementary, Middle and High School, visitation hours will be from 3:00 until 6:00 PM.  Bleckley County Success Academy will be open from 3:30 until 6:00 PM, and the Bleckley County Pre-K will be open from 1:00 until 6:00 PM.  You're invited to come to school that day to meet your child's teachers for the coming year.  School starts for all students August 7th.

Top Readers Receive Reward from State Bank

At the BCES Honors Day program, the top reader at each grade level was rewarded with $50 from the State Bank of Cochran. Top readers were:
Alayshia Sykes, Kiwon Jenkins, and Juliet Cairney. Congratulations to these super readers and thank you to State Bank for the donation of prize money.




GFWC Cochran's Women's Club Recognizes Writing Contest Winners at BCES

The GFWC Cochran Woman's Club recently announced the winners of their short story and poetry contests. Winners were selected at the recent GFWC state convention in Athens. Two Bleckley Elementary students placed first in their age division. Pictured above are 4th grader Lucy Wiegert  and 5th grader Molly Sims with Club President, Mrs. Betty Cannon and Art Chairman, Mrs. Oneta Kitchens. Lucy placed first in the poetry division and Molly placed first in the short story division.

     Student winners were presented certificates and a cash award of $25.00 provided by the different clubs in GFWC Georgia.  A cash award was also presented by GFWC to their teacher, Mrs. Deborah Sawyer to help with student supplies. GFWC Georgia is a state organization composed of women's  clubs  throughout the state of Georgia, whose members provide volunteer services to their communities. The Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs sponsors an annual writing contest to provide students an opportunity to freely express themselves and draw upon their experiences through writing. Congratulations to these local students on their wonderful writing!
